"...where urban children could get to know nature and experience the bush and the mountains..."

Sixtus Lodge is an outdoor education centre near Āpiti in the Manawatū, in the foothills of the Western Ruahine Ranges, where farmland gives way to native bush. Although established as an outdoor education centre, all visitors are welcome—school camps, clubs, friends and family, youth, service, church or study groups, business teams and community organisations.

Sixtus Lodge offers affordable accommodation for up to 51 people across its two buildings (Main Lodge & Toka Cottage).

The Lodge is self-contained and self-catering. A booking gives sole occupancy of the property.

Surrounding the Lodge buildings are attractive lawns, an arboretum of native trees, and a bush reserve with a number of walking tracks leading to a nearby creek.

The Outdoor Education Centre was established in 1977 for school camp groups from Palmerston North and named after the late Les Sixtus, a local farmer, who generously donated six hectares of his land so that “urban children could get to know nature and experience the bush and the mountains”.

Working Bees - Everyone is Welcome!

Sixtus Lodge is managed by The Sixtus Lodge Trust Board (STLB). The members of SLTB are all volunteers, who contribute their time and expertise to maintain the Lodge and its environs to a high standard, and provide a unique, safe and enjoyable outdoor experience for all tenants. SLTB runs Sixtus Lodge via regular business meetings and a number of working bees at the Lodge itself, to carry out cleaning, maintenance and property development.
New members are always welcome – contact our Secretary (Kirsten Otter) for more information: secretary@sixtuslodge.co.nz
